A restoration is a journey through the history and spirituality of an object. With this focus, we addressed the canvas “The Judgment,” a masterpiece that captures a crucial moment of the Via Crucis, an ode to light and color, elements that intertwine in an eternal dialogue within the world of art.
The technique used for creating the work aligns with the dating reported, 1599: more flexible canvases joined together, easy to roll and transport, mounted on the frame once they reached their destination. The restoration occurs through the skillful use of layers of Japanese paper: the canvas preparation is based on gesso and oil, which makes the support uniform and isolates it from direct contact with the oil of the colors, which remain unchanged over time.
Restoring a previous state is a process aimed not only at preserving the material but also at awakening the dormant beauty of a work without intending to re-edit it, but rather to make it enjoyable in its authenticity for as long as possible.
Restoration becomes synonymous with restitution, the return of a narrative.
