Morna Bed, Afra and Tobia Scarpa 1972
Created by Afra and Tobia Scarpa in collaboration with Molteni&C, the Morna bed is a symbol of the modernity and functionality of 1970s Italian design. Its structure, based on a tubular steel frame with rubber feet and castors, is a testament to precision and practicality. Sprung beech wood slats, protected by leather-covered edges, provide comfortable support for the mattress, while the headboard, made up of polyurethane elements covered in black leather, allows the bed to be converted into a single or double version. The headboard and bedside table are in black opaline with a glossy surface. On the sides of the bed there are pull-out containers with trays of different depths for storing objects. The Morna bed marked the transition to the modern bedroom and was a turning point in the way the bedroom was furnished. |
