Cornaro Sofa, Carlo Scarpa 1974
The “Cornaro Sofa” is one of the most famous works by the renowned Italian architect and designer Carlo Scarpa. Created in 1974, this masterpiece is named after the Cornaro family, an aristocratic Venetian family with a long history and strong presence in art and culture. The frame, made by Simon Gavina, is made of Iroko wood, a native of West Africa, renowned for its durability and natural beauty. The light-coloured padded upholstery nestles into the wooden frame and is held in place by rubber straps. It is a piece that tells the story of the cultivated and international hospitality of literary salons and the heated exchange of political ideas.
